Not a proper diary entry... just a QND test of how well my noNews kludge integrates with the new engine powering my homepage.... Stay tuned....
2002 Dec 31 (Tue), 20:07 Very interesting....
Well, it worked pretty well, but I did have to make one tweak to noNews to make it better integrate with my older diary entries. Also, I'm not 100% this is being mirrored on Advogato any more.... So one more test!

Okay, it's not quite new years where I am (probably elsewhere, but I can't personally attest to that), but this will likely be the last entry I make this year, so here goes...
If you are reading this on my homepage (rather than one of the mirrors, including Advogato) then you have no doubt noticed things are different. Well, I got bored with my old web-site's look. I also acknowledged that I tend to get bored with things like that often. Plus, I do need to fix the direly ugly Geekcomix, and I need to ensure that certain disagreeable items from geekcomix.com are not easily accessable from Tux4Kids (because, well, Tux4Kids needs to be kid friendly). So, I started working over the holiday break on various backend engines for my Geekcomix.com things (like my homepage) to solve all these problems at once.
The one you're noticing (if you are on my homepage) is my 'SNH' engine (heh-heh, named after its creator ;-) which allows me to do multiple themes for my website and allow you to select which one you prefer. The default one is "Default Techno", and I have one "evil-looking" one, "UberEvil" (dedicated to the internet kitsch that is "evil homepages", check the README file for UberEvil for more info). Oh, I also have my classic SNH theme. I will add more later as I get bored with these. I may even change the default someday. But, you can always pick whichever one you prefer, and (provided you allow cookies from me) my website will remember it for you.
This engine does other cool things as well- such as locking my personal pages down to geekcomix.com, granting me certain easily accessable administrative tasks behind the scenes, and e-mailing me whenever there's an engine error (or someone trying to exploit the engine). I am thinking about integrating it into Noink one of these days... but it may be entirely too custom for that....
I'm not done... I have a long way to go. You'll notice most of my old links are dead. I will be transitioning things over soon. I also am yet to start on the Geekcomix.com transitions other than the 404 error page. You'll also notice most of my diary archives haven't changed yet. But the hard part is over, and everything should be down hill from here.
I've not worked much on any of my Tux4Kids projects in a while. I've been too busy with my work and with admin'ing Tux4Kids servers. I really need to move Tux Typing over to the dev server and get other people to maintain the webpage and downloads, as I've really not got the time. I also have several small T4K projects started, and about a dozen with volunteers to lead them, I've just been too busy this last year. Hopefully I can find/make more time this year ;-)
My wife and I just got home from watching Solaris.... urg... hated it. Two weeks ago we rented Minority Report.... urg... hated it to (and it actually had a great deal of promise... I think the problem it had had to do with the ego's behind the scenes...) ... Uhm.... more later I'm sure....
